the meeting has started man good evening everyone we like to welcome each and every one of you too I'll Jasper County Board of Education monthly school board meeting today is Monday December 11th in 2023 the time is now 5 I'll Mantra our students enter future Focus Jasper Scholars today's Learners tomorrow's leaders Jasper County School District it's an environment of excellent through Innovation inspiration and opportunities in partnership with the community we have a quorum I have Mrs Frasier yes is Riley yes mr. Bailey yes I'm here okay did I miss anyone hi Priscilla green present we have a quorum the media have been notified as required by South Carolina code of laws of 1976 is a middle section 34-8 A 18 local news media has been notified of the date time and place and purpose of this meeting can I get a motion for the approval of the agenda so move like a bird ride Taco Bell we have a motion made by mrs. mrs. Bolden followed by a Moment of Silence I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America or which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you thank you we will now have to turn around CSI School playing update Hardeeville Elementary School Junior Senior High School Richland secondary Academy of Excellence Middle High and the school administrators are on I'm going to turn it over to you guys good evening everyone dismissed Jefferson here we're going to go through all the information that we have here for our board meeting thank you so much or very much mr. Shelton for having this up and ready for me we can go ahead move to the next life PowerSchool card school report card is a 40 we are merely two points away from from being an average school I am super excited about this because of for the first time since 2009 the school likes to receive a good on its gross student growth rating so that is definitely an amazing thing we've definitely Concord mtss and now we're going to definitely focus and on and on and on that tier-1 instruction which were hoping is going to put us across threshold and get us to honestly probably good this coming year as we truly truly focus in on that tier one instruction Nick's Lobster so when we look at our plan the state gave a pocket of money to the schools and one of the things that we looked at that we had in place in the past was interventionists and intervention as they actually are those individuals that pull those students into smaller settings as it stands we currently have about 672 students and all those 672 students over half of those students are ml or those East all students and all of that 3% they speak absolutely no English very little to no English so we know that we've definitely got to we got to focus our attention so they're so as a result of that we wanted to be really really really intentional and net we're hiring intervention of a literacy intervention is to serve those students I'm having that inverted triangle we know that we've got more by students who fall in that does not be category and it is our plan to have that intervention has in place to support that you see that we got $58,838 based on 10 years of experience with a master's degree along with the associated benefits to hire that individual that's going to come out of that Federal portion of the fox kids Jefferson is it possible for them then lost the screen since we don't have the paper copy of this I'm sorry is that goodness gracious I better just need somebody that's better thank you so we also have the associated benefits they're 12832 $0.56 for retirement $4,501 for FICA $882.57 a worker's comp for a total of $77,054.24 again with that base salary being 8000 next line for me sir to coincide I want to go along with what is needed for those for the interventionist we we need to have the necessary materials to the instructional supplies that we need to support that individual so some of the things that we use on a daily basis is the Pinal that's a leveled literacy intervention system whereby we have to figure out what level those kids are on so we figure out exactly what it is that they need as far as their support and what lli does it nothing is a scripted program that meets those students exactly where they are we have some proven track records with this particular program so that's what we got here so with that we got the kids these kids are extremely expensive so if you notice we got one at the peak it l l i c keep it leveled literacy intervention system for $5,299 and again they are so sore so this is the only place that we can purchase them from we got the win strugglers win our readers struggle because we do have a lot of struggling readers little pamphlet if you will that will support $108 for two sets and that would equate to a quite a bit of chips that we have in there we wouldn't allow these to go home with the kids because we want to make sure that we again have it in the building so we can use it continuously we got 15 of the literacy notebooks as a comment want to make sure that the organizer kids are able to come in and they grab exactly what it is that they need that's $1,170 and then we got to take home bags because again we know that leading the way that we get our students to move is honestly eyes on text so we got the text that will be associated with this that the kids will be able to take home it allows us to duplicate or make copies of it comes with a license so we're going to have those backpack so that you the bags that will go home with the kids they will get assignments that they need to work toward so that they can actually continue to grow six packs $525 each and I just actually wanted to add a picture of it so if you see there's a picture that shows exactly what the kids look like in the what everything is for total of $7,945.76 as we look on the bottom all of the administrators they support a great level about one of the assistant principals he he was a science minor so he's going to support because of course in fourth grade we take SE pass and that's the state test that supports the sign standard so he's going to be supporting those individual teachers and we all meet with him on Wednesdays weekly so we can actually talk to them about those standards and making sure that they are teaching at the rigger level that we need them to to make sure the tier-1 instruction actually takes place and we actually move this academic Neil next song please. because we have got such a large population of students who are not performing on grade level we knew that that intervention would not be able to service all of those students so as of his so that and with the pocket of money that we have weird looking to hire an intervention lab educator and this person because Ella is a scripted program it's written that way so that are classified staff can support here as well so what I've got here is too high intervention lab educator to service students who require additional intervention support the continued use of the state of lab will work in concert with the intervention and classroom support to improve both Ela and math data as a corresponds to the school renewal plan everything we do doesn't work in a silo so we have a school renewal plan that we got to submit to this state and we've got to tell them exactly what it is that we're going to do what our goals are and how we're going to move as far as intervals so this is going to support their I put some goals in there and if you notice that you see 20 23 24 24 25 and 25 26 and that is the goal is to have in third grade to have 29.6% of our students actually on or burp on or above grade level by the 2425 school year 36.6 and Ida 25:26 43.6 the great thing about this is as it stands we're just a little below that for a third grade third grade we're currently sitting at about 12% but we're looking to again increase that with the support of the intervention lab professional and the interventionist could you move out a little bit Master Shelton thank you sir we also have those targeted percentages that that we want that we expect to have on green level for both 4th and 5th grade as well and for those same time spans 2320 24 25 and 25 26 we constantly have conversations and what I do is a meeting with the teachers on the 4th because we're just finishing up with are already winter assessment you know how things those individual conversations with the teachers with the staff just to exactly where we are and to put goals in place to make sure because what I'm requiring of our staff the same as last year is they also have to come up with a turnaround plan a great level turnaround plan we know where the deficits are we know what's going on in the classrooms what is it ever going to do make sure that we are constantly moving all those students again that little verbs that you see there's just the verse to talk about those Tier 1 plus and those to your two students to make sure that we get those printed materials digital a Place intervention support to make sure that again they've got no excuse no one has any excuse for us not to gain traction and move the school even further than we have presently the third performance goal is Imagine learning that is a program that really really really has worked well with our ml population of students who don't speak English it's work really well it is a computer-based program software that is targeted to that particular population and we're going to come to Yuan to make sure that we have this well into the future because again knowing that we've got this population we've got to be intentional we got to Target them again this is worked in the past we've had about 3% of our students are a male students who have been on track for Success will this pass report card we had Thirty 30% so that is an amazing thing in amazing growth and I don't have a lot of that to this particular program that we had fun set aside to make sure that we can continue with this program that is actually what we have in our budget that's all we got there is there another slytherin's Sheldon the focus my particular focus is pedagogy again making sure our teachers have exactly what they need providing all of the support that they need I think they probably think that they get too much support and all honesty but again we want to make sure that they have what they need just as we tear our students I've got all about teachers just here to make sure that we provide them with specific and and support to get them what they need to make sure that again there's no excuse for not moving our students small group instruction making sure the best Target making sure that we have an individualized plan for every student just as we have them for our stew I've got one with my administrator for everybody else in the building to make sure that we know exactly what it is that they need and we target that support and that we get it we know that is not a one-size-fit-all so we want to make sure that every person in the building we know exactly what they need and we provided and again just being intentional everything we do is intentional teachers know they can't come to me and say hey I don't I just don't want no well we can do that if you can put it on students and if you can tell me how it impacts students positively then we can proceed. make sure the vet intentionality is there next Lobster so our plan all things academic going to make sure that we provide assessment data training to make sure that our teachers know our staff know everybody knows what the data says we're going to make all of our decisions based on the data going to provide monthly data. That will facilitate tracking and monitoring of any shift so we're not be caught off-guard we're going to know what it is we were unsatisfactory guess what I knew that we were going to be based on the trans based on what I saw when we were below average this year I knew that because again is it is knowing the data you know so we're going to make sure that we continue to look at the data and continue to necessary shift so that we can do what we need to do provide opportunities for all Educators to be informed about the new accountability metric I know you heard about that so again just making sure that we know what students need to do where they need to be so that we've got what we as we move to that new added value model and community members with meeting so we we host them every mom I'm if you're if you're open to if you're able to please come in are we have those meetings the third Tuesday of every month I'm just to make sure the last one that we had was a true success we had the most people that we've had in the past 4 years so I'm super excited at the word is getting out of people are coming out to to this to these meetings and then we got to contain the cord coordinate those board work session I with my staff and with everyone in the building and the community to make sure that we understand the data and we can say to move forward one of my personal goals with the team was for your SLO these a student learning objectives and the verbage is exactly what you see that 50% of our students Edward C gray level of proficiency requirements this does not you know this is this is what we're doing so we want to make sure that our students are we got most of our students and or exceeds we want to make sure that that's where they are because at the day that's what the state looks at they don't look at those students or below-average they do give us one point for those that are approaching but it doesn't show on my report card so we want to make sure again that we have 50% of our students in that category that's the expectation that all the staff members and the building. have because again we want to make sure that we are intentional we want to make sure that we set the bar High because we know that we're able to reach that next song please that is all I have I do thank you all for your top know if I'm able to entertain question but if I am I'm willing to entertain them yes so anyone have any questions or mr. Jefferson in comments any questions I have a comment is he mention about the data presentations and I guess explaining it to the stakeholders in the community and I think what of our last meeting that say only about five person showed up and he saying that there was quite a few so I need to know the correct answer was it five persons only showing up or was it more than five people showing up and again most of the times when the board wants to attend something we seem like we're not allowed to attend so I'm just questioning that so the question that I can't answer I'm not sure where the fire came from I know that posted the last meeting and we had a man I've got sign-in sheets we had well over 25 people and that is again that's the most that we've ever had in years and we advertise that we put through a post that I send things home with students are to make sure that they have it so the last data meeting that we had now the last me that you may be referring to is maybe rsic meeting so that ssic meeting there a lot of individuals that don't show it to that necessarily about the date conversation the last time we had oh yes we had tons of individuals that okay that's the same meeting that Miss Westbrook day message ball today we as board members on we should be welcome to attend any of the meeting I think where are we I don't think we're receiving a notice it so I'm going to request that we receive all notices of the meetings that's being held at the school and we can be sent out a little memo just letting us know if they are having a literacy night or what's happening at the schools so that if you're able to attend that you can attend any other questions I see lot Anderson your own Todd Anderson I see she's typing hold on one second everyone if you could just let me know if y'all can see the chat she's saying she don't have a voice but she is online mrs. Jefferson that you are offering support to our teachers cuz we're such high expectations it is nice to know that the administration is exhausted all options to make sure that they have the necessary tools and any place to get our students where they need to be awesome presentation any other questions comments coming from board members Miss Frazier Tom Bolden Miss Riley I don't have a question or concern about that I'm just concerned about the board members that are trying to be on this meeting and they cannot be cannot join and I think they would like to be a part of it and I mean we're going on with the meeting and we still do I have four numbers on this meeting that is trying to get in and that's three members that are actually trying to get in on the meeting I know somebody asked earlier today and we did let them know they would not be able to get on with the iPhone or iPad I don't know if the people that are trying to get done or trying to get in with iPhone to iPad but they will not be able to get in as a as prisoners without coming into a computer if they try to get on from iPhone or iPad or like their phone it will put them as an attendee okay I sent the telephone number in the conference ID to mrs. Bailey he's typing is Mike not working give him a sec he's trying to get his mic to work Prince's tumors in I like 40 minutes to reflect that we do have my name is Gerald there in my telephone and Mr Musgrave now no audio Junior Senior High School we have to cards and so Middle School report card was in the good category so we can stand on that and tonight's presentation for our high school report card being below-average 47 points we had our meeting on November 15th for a sic meeting with our parents are stakeholders students and staff and so this is the presentation that we shared with our stakeholders and so the first line see there are the categories that's on the school report card that we are as a high school that we are measured on something to note is our senior class I was you know this was The Vow was the fourth principle that those students had Over a four-year time frame and so a lot of things that barriers that we ran into with her you know with our senior class you know it had an impact on our report card this year and so he did not wait until the report card ratings came out to be below average and knowing that we had to have a turnaround plan the things that you saw it that you will see in the turnaround plan the administrative team and our leadership team over summer this was kind of our working plan for this upcoming school year based on last year and things that we need to do differently to have change immediately the school year and as I told her arm members of Yes I see meeting this is a one-time thing we're going to go ahead and get this report cards a good this year and this will be the last time we have to worry about any Improvement plan so we can go to the next slide and I will share with you guys the things that were working on this information here that we shared his straight from the Strategic plan and this was the areas that we felt like we could have the most immediate impact on our school report card one of that is our College and Career readiness and so the data that you see in that is from the Strategic plan by the end of 26 27 36.8 of our students will be considered college-ready and 69.5 of our students by the end of 26 27 will be considered career next song please the third area is are in the course test if you go back and look at this year is Algebra 1 EOC T data and are English to do this past school year 2223 we already met or exceeded the Strategic plans goal of 2627 so we felt like we were on the right course and those two areas of biology are you CT data for last year on biology actually hit the mark for this school year The Five-Year increments of the Strategic plan that was conducting struck 22 years ago so the one area on the oct so we felt like we could have the most that was our US history and so 15.5 is what the district was in 21 22 with a gold by 2627 of 40.5 and they were also felt like if we increase our graduation from this past school year of 81% to the state average or beyond the state average of 83.8% that would put us in a really good position our school report card next line please and so that's just a chart identifying those three areas that we talked about again those years and those numbers are the data that's in the Strategic plan and so that's kind of our stepping stone are our guys along the way each year to make sure we're hitting those marks next song please so being below average we had a we had a steps that we must conduct part of the state department we wanted to share that information with our parents and so the first the first that was meeting with rsic sharing that plan and yes I see accepting our plan to move forward I'm submitting that plan for local board approval to you guys The Next Step would be submitting by sometime in January to the state department for approval and then between that's that point January wants its improved implementation monitoring our plan and adjusting along the way and then obviously the last thing for us to do is to move our school report card rating from below average to good is Argo good or excellent so we had to construct share the strategies that we I've been implementing along the way to make those things happen in those four key areas the first thing we looked at was our ml student progress increasing that by 30% last year we were scored two points to 74 and so if we have a 30% increase will be just below 3% of our 3% on our index for rml students and so you see the action items again these are things that we do signed and implemented over the summer into our school year this year again before any of the school report cards came out in October we knew where we were when you what are data said and when you where we need to be when the new one that has have a plan place with this coming school year so using the siop strategies and all our Ela classrooms we went back into our master schedule and we have four sections of esol classes for our students who are newcomer 21 like 9 we have two sections in our master schedule Top by r m l r e s o l teachers will have two sections first semester into sections for semester 2 again focusing on our newcomer sister I 1.9 we do have ESO glasses for our 6th 7th and 8th grade students during are related arts schedule that's in our master schedule for our newcomers 21.9 we revised our pushing model for middle and high school students based on the way to school most unicellular identified at 2.0 23.5 we are offering play pushing model for those students we are in the process of for second semester implementing a parent University focused on supporting our email parents were three in riding speaking strategies and how to access Community Resources oftentimes are our new families are newcomers they don't really know where to go for those Community Resources and we understand that being a community school that's art of where we want to assist with our without newcomer families and so with that with our parent liaison and two of our esol teachers have this is something that they want to do something they're very passionate about and so provide those things we're going to meet twice a month in the evenings to provide those resources to our newcomer families three of our teacher signed up and went through and got certified for the siop model training and so that was a benefit we can already see where that's paying dividends with those three teachers and then our faculty and staff during our plc's we're also offering buyout model training to better assist REO population next song please so the graduation rate again going back to where we mentioned getting to the state average and so our graduation team meets Everett 20 days and we sit down and go through our 9gr file for all for graduating classes because we constantly have students transferring in transferring out once a transfer once a student transfers and we are responsible for that child and so restore graduation date so there's a lot of data that we have to keep up with tracking our students to make sure they're on point and so that's something that we it's every 20 days that we're going through that information as a team during our activity. Our students who are enrolled in EOCT courses they have 30 minutes of extra preparation with a t o c t teacher oftentimes we also have one of our esol teachers in that class there is a a number of ml students they're on their caseload to actual offer that supporting that team teaching we have advisement. During activity. The Midway Point Beach quarter again an extra set of eyes with all our high school teachers are looking through our students transcripts just making just having that extra level of support for our students to help keep them help keep them on the right course that includes attendants as well once we get to second semester start registering for classes for next school year that will also be an extra level of support for our students by having their High School teachers acting at visy role of their possible course elections for next year we have Edge Liberty which is offered for our credit recovery students those students who may have failed a course oftentimes we have students transferring in that have failed courses at their previous high schools and so we need to have that credit recovery it's also be important for this year now that the accountability metrics has also included a high school student success measurement on the school report card which is what we like to call 611 6 credits per year 1 English 1 math every single year until the student graduates and that's going to be a new mattress that's on the report card so we know that Edgenuity is not only going to be offered for credit recovery but it's also going to be Taunton so if I if I'm in a gimlet class for example and I'm not doing very well my teacher can also my teacher can assign extra assignments to help me build up that content recovery that I may have missed during the regular class time using a parent liaison to incruse homeschool relations again for those after our sessions for our parent University we think that's going to play dividends with our graduation rate and then we offer that training for that visor by Z Model that mention two earlier how to evaluate high school transcripts what is the graduation plan for the individual students just so I teachers can be aware of what's going on for our students make slime please the next slide focuses on College and Career Readiness career Readiness this past year was 50.9% a lot of our students did not have the opportunity within their schedule to have a pathway because they were sure credits and so we know that that was a little underperforming in my eyes I'm being 50% the state average was 61.4% so that's what we're trying to get to we're trying to raise our college readiness from 12.7% to the state average of 32.6% again if we can exceed State averages were all for it but the bare minimum should be the state average in our view one of the ways we did that we increased our AP course offerings this year from zero to three two of our three instructors actual received a scholarship form from college board and they had the opportunity to go and become certified this summer a four-day training and so we're actually offering recall 3 AP courses because that is another metric for our students to become college-ready having to AP classes scoring a 3 or higher on the exam increasing our dual enrollment opportunities on campus master schedule for second semester we do have to prove instructors through TCL English 101 and college algebra being offered to our students last time I looked I think we have a hundred 56 courses being taken by our students next semester just next to mastering and dual enrollment for my high school student body so kudos to dr. Murphy in the counseling team for making that happen increasing our wind scores through YES Prep that's done through progress learning that's done for our seniors and then our Juniors will take it again five genders will take it for the first time this spring so we're doing those test prep activities through progress learn to help increase our wind scores which county or career Readiness again we've mentioned the activity. That we have in our master schedule and that's utilize foreo CT prep content recovery and advisement that is the time that our students had the opportunity if they're not in the oct course to be working on those career-readiness peeps pieces we have ongoing professional development from State Department for re OCT courses and REO CT teachers thank you. Westbrook for facilitating organizing. and again I'm answering the AP summer training for three of our instructors so we all were able to offer we are offering AP biology AP Lang and then AP Gov to our students this coming this school year the next goal that we looked at was for US history and so again implementing that activity. It's our master schedule the way our master schedule rolled out this year we only had one section of you sister being taught this first semester they actually took the oct test today in that course then next semester we have two courses taken two sections taken us history so again mid year before we start second semester we will look through everything that we did what work what didn't work what do we need to do differently for second semester and so our students do you have that extra 30 minutes time with her instructor during the school day man we are offering our US History instructor those opportunities through the South Carolina Department of Education ongoing professional development opportunities throughout the school year next slide please and then part of the document that we had to fill out it did ask what high quality construction materials are being used to focus on growth continuous Improvement for ELA and math so we listed some of the some of the things where you utilize inside the classroom other than direct instruction that has that remediation and that enrichment for our students and both Ela and math some of the items you see their masteryconnect which is an assessment Bank to create assessments instructors progress learning AP classroom for AP student Co CT prep work books for all reset courses and we have increased our informational and literary texts for ELA students again in math Mastery cuz next assessment Bank progress learning math nation and our decimals calculator software which is the software in this embedded inside the Algebra 1 EOC test and so we knew that our students need to be to have that training for that calculator software make slime please Enzo face for us to implement and Phase 5 is the Monitor and so what dinosaur is the team music the modern this gold Benchmark and act access course go to is our school 9gr file our progress reports weekly Edgenuity reports and again he's not weeks our report cards go 3 focused on career and college readiness so far wins scores from a few weeks ago for a senior class ASVAB scores for seniors AP exams which will occur in May are dual enrollment and then of course I-88 GTA exam Walsall have impacts on our students being deemed College and Career ready and so we have a 30-day review 60-day review 90-day review and the last what is h s i c meeting from November 15th by the time the meeting was over there was definitely more people than you see they're inside our meeting I had to move our school staff out into the hallway just to have room for our stakeholders to join rsic a meeting so I just want to give everybody a little glimpse into that the Hardeeville Community is actually coming out supporting our school and I will say hats off to our parent liaison who has really made that connection to our history Hispanic community and they're coming out and supporting the things that were trying to our goals that we're trying to accomplish and that is all I have awesome mr. really let me slide specially the one at the end with your parents showing up all awesome presentation in the sound like she have a great plan in place to improve our schools you're doing good we came up we're not where we used to be so that's a plus anybody else any other board members you're all on I just can't today pictures or anything but there I can tell that you're all alone on this is golden mrs. Frazier Miss Mitchell Miss Riley I think that the presentation was very good even the first one was very good and I just bought currency wall to follow through with it and thank you yes ma'am animals Gerald is on by phone and Missus too much do you ladies have anything that y'all would like to say Miss to Merced to tell him great job love the AP courses implementation I can just tell him or any others Miss Gerald can you text me Miss Gerald I can speak for you temperature yes Miss Mitchell it has been a great presentation but there's one thing someone said if you saw the thing was routed follow through and that is that's Paramount because no matter how eloquent your presentation is if there's no follow-through to it we can't be successful so we wanted one to see it implemented with Fidelity and so that the next year our stores will be better and not on the school thing better but the students will accomplish so much and I do I applaud you for the for the SL portion of it and so it could be really need to have those persons doing graduation of doing the awards ceremony at the Hardeeville site Dorothy of the person who exceeded we're all Hispanic community and in elementary and middle sold me do applaud you and Beyond we expect great things thank you will look at everything at the end of semester before we come back from the winter break we won't we will not wait until June to figure out that we messed up and you know if our plan is not working we are not afraid to change that was evident with our Middle School report card in a moving 16 points last year and we kind of did the same thing last year with our Middle School at that halfway point you know where do you know we know there's 26 letters just 26 plans in the alphabet so we're not afraid to move away from playing a to play an F awesome the general would like to say she understand what he's saying and expecting them to take those steps she said the police let you know she's a great student prep thank you any other questions or comments for mr. Ali keep up the good work you do an awesome job thank you so very much play Movin right along original secondary Academy of Excellence good evening everyone I want to First apologize I see one of my numbers is missing from this side where we have the number to report cards that on a school-wide plan for improvement so I Middle School is below average just one point away from average so we're still working to get there in a high school should have been on here as well it is sitting at a 29 and is unsatisfactory you can go to the next side and I'll go ahead and start talking about I'm going to talk about the areas but paying for improvements high school and middle school okay that's fine that I'm missing does a I'm missing I don't know what happened to it but go King go back now go back to the top there supposed to be another slide before this one I'm not sure where what happened to it but I'll talk about both of these for a Middle School academic achieve we received this is I'm not sure what happened to my slides I'm missing a spot but Middle School academic our Focus area was English and math and our report card reading for the middle school was a 6.93 out of 35 points and school was a 1.8 I mean the Middle School prepare for Success that should say Middle School is that a high school was 1.8 out of 10 and that's our science so I plan for improvement here was last year we had lots of issues in terms of vacant seats I'm sorry this is not the right side is there a way that I can share my slides I'm not sure what happened to the presentation is there a way I can do that because this is high school and I'm missing a middle my middle school slide off their yes ma'am just hit share okay hold on yeah I'm pulling up right now Cher let me see if I can share my screen and then moved to the presentation are you able to see what I'm sharing now yes man okay good so here here is my middle school achievement which is math and science let me see the math and Ela was a 6.935 out of 35 points and science was 1.8 out of 10 point and what we did last year we had lots of vacancies but we have secured Personnel for those so we are looking very very well in terms of instruction so here's our plan for improvement I'm one of the first things we needed to do was in Mercer teachers in i-Ready PD already is our platform that we're using to monitor our students growth and their progress towards that stretch goal so we've been providing monthly i-Ready PD provided through curriculum Associates during those PD sessions we just aggravate data and use reports to improve instruction and this is just not the ELA and Math teachers that also involves the science and social studies teachers because they have to work as a team if we're going to see things improved science and social studies family supporting Ela and math we want to make sure we're including them we are maximizing our personal Pathways where we have weekly monthly and quarterly goals for our students we offer challenges and incentives we hold Reg the great level check-ins and meetings where I get a chance to talk with the students about their stretch goal their typical growth goal we set those challenges weekly in terms of lessons completed and minutes on i-Ready on the personalized pathway cuz that person last pathway move them towards those stretch goals at the end of the semester we have data conferences regularly with students that is being done in the classrooms during the intervention. And I also pull students randomly to have data conferences they know their numbers they know their targets and I know what they're looking with that working towards they'll be able to meet those targets we have also implemented last year and academic Intervention. When I got here last year the academic intervention was included in the class. And what I found was that as teachers and I would have probably done the same you get caught up in your lesson you just begin to teach and you're not offering that Remediation in that support for students so we implemented in a specific academic intervention. Was students are attending that session in the focus just on the i-Ready personal LastPass pathway all of the core teachers and monitoring student progress we have small group instruction that's taking place during that time that small group instruction is being done by classroom teachers as well as some of the related arts teacher to have strength and turn in areas of ela and math we have an Ela interventionist this year who does pull outs along with the current teachers the content teachers excuse me she meets is a part of our already data team meetings and helps the math although she's not math we don't have a math interventionist in place but she does understand small groups so she works with them as well I related arts teachers are assisting by pulling small groups are holding the larger groups that are content teachers can pull the snow this year we also have stemscopes for our science classes which is a plus because last year I felt like we didn't have enough that would give us data for our students in science in our stemscopes is almost like and I ready for science so what we did this year was we've been providing some planning time for them to work with their science kits I believe that you learn science by doing so we have to make sure that we are writing opportunities for students have Hands-On experiences and that stemscopes kit those kids come with Hands-On experiments for them as well as online Interactive Learning just like Gaara already platform we've also put in place after school programming on Middle School students are taking advantage of it not as many as I'd like and not many of them that are as consistent from week to week but I middle school students are there we are meeting weekly to discuss our data and we're looking at this year so far 50% of our students have reached their typical growth and so they're on their way to the stretch growth that I already which will be those students were meets and exceeds and those value-added on the report card we have a science benchmark that took place play some Eagle awaiting that data so we can see what's happening with our science and our growth towards our goal we are revising revising our early start program in second semester for a middle school student so that they are going to begin to get more intense remediation and support based on i-Ready platform and that will begin in January now let me see if I can get to my next slide High School academic achievement and our high school preparing for Success which is science and social studies preparing for success and Algebra 1 in English one we are having weekly plc's and data check in without teachers what I noticed last is that we spent a lot of time calling something plc's but we weren't actually discussing the data so we have weekly data chats without teachers and they bring in during those plc's the data from their classroom instruction and their assessments that we can assess where students are we provide PD for DLC content Area Teachers so that they can focus on improving across-the-board we've implemented Focus intercession and after-school programs during the first intersection we had an algebra 1 session is our lowest scoring area we had a teacher who did 4 hours just with algebra 1 review for our small group of students who were testing this semester we provide extra time and extra help with in our school day throughout my time we have 30 minutes built into the middle of the day where students are able to return to their classes for extra time and extra help because we know that transportation is always a problem for our students so if we can give them that time during the day we do that we also haven't you'll see Blitz where I students went back for the last two months before the ELC they return to their EOC teacher or teacher who taught in Toc course for intensive review and Remediation and reteaching as necessary last year on a report card I think I heard Mr. so we didn't wait until this year to begin implementing we made changes based on what we saw last year and I could see to that the handwriting was on the wall so we began looking at a report card plan of improvement and last year without eoc's we exceeded I'll charge it for a school renewal plan in ela and in math and our current benchmarks will have us re-send exceeding our school renewal plan in biology last year I think we were sitting at about 12% passage and I see we should be in a solid 40% or better for this year's e o c in biology we still struggling some with real history but we are working through that as well we use at benchmark assessments to disaggregated data we looking at student individual reports give those two students we have grade-level meetings with teachers and students to discuss report card changes and Toc reporting it's important for the students to know how we're scored on a report card so they know what we need to do to make those changes so we had those meetings regularly for our students as well we had a meeting today as a matter of fact to talk about some of those things for a multilingual Learners we are still with some vacancies we don't have any esol teachers on staff at the present moment so we put forth to recommendations in a waiting for those two teachers to join us in the meantime we are in permitting the siop training for all teachers and staff has been coming in she sends out weekly tips for them on how to improve ml student instruction we are going to move to a push in instead of a pilot a pull out for resol because the data will show you that students were immersed in the language all the time as opposed to be pulled out for a particular class will have far better success we do use translation tools of your presentation software during instruction the District of course has given us the access to Rosetta Stone as a staff and so I've share that information with my teachers and we are eagerly looking forward to improving our own Spanish so that we can improve our instruction without ml Learners my parent liaison who is bilingual in the interim is also pulling students for us to do some bass language immersion with the student so she pulls our group each Friday when she can to work with those students in absence of resol teacher a big challenge at the high school has been our graduation rate in a graduation grad cohort effects are College and Career Readiness along with our graduation rate so here's some of the things that we're working toward improving it's important to note that the child is that we find with our graduation rate really are an offset of covid and all the things that came from it last year we had 86 seniors in the building 83 of those 86 graduated which would give us a great graduation rate however the state is holding us accountable last year 432 students so they are quite a few students who did not return after the covid are so this year we are looking at a potential file that's even larger than the ones last year right now it's 185 students on a potential list and we only have 75 students in the building so what we've been doing to improve that graduation rate as we have aggressive attendance measures in place for those students who are here we have daily notification that has been reinstated through PowerSchool that goes out to parents letting them know about absences for students and that has been a game-changer I've seen more parents since that started up again then I have been able to see all last year Miss attendance clerk sends out letters at 35 and 7 days we have active attendance intervention plans and we have a weekly excuse me to buy weekly attendance meeting with the counselors administrators and our tenants Clerk talk about the students who we have not seen and what we need to do to try to recover those students we have implemented out attendance recovery plan in that so that students who have excessive absences can recover that seat time we will see the first semester is recovery in January and it's a 30-day Windows set by the state and when students have an opportunity to come in and recover content that they may have missed internet seat time so that they are able to gain that credit which means they will be on time for graduate we have a 9 gr5 reconciliation that's on going like I said I couldn't file right now holds 185 students potentially we won't know that final number until April when is given to us by the state but we have 75 students in the building and of those hundred and ten students that we do we did not have in the building we have located documentation for all but 40 students we are currently working through that last list of 40 21 of those students are in male population so mister and I had a meeting last week to talk about what we need to do we're going to be going through permanent records to see who may or may not have migrants Dad which will help us get some of those students off of i g file which will then decrease the denominator that we being held accountable for which will cause our graduation rate to rise we are looking at that graduate file daily by the counseling staff by weekly counseling admin meetings cab District staff who are have been listed and have gone out to help us find students to locate them going to visit homes and we have gone through internal transcript audits with the state of no penalty audit with the state to tell us what we're doing in terms of improving our graduation rate in our counselors are constantly looking at those transcripts to determine what students are going to be on track to graduate on time in addition they are also looking at those transcripts to determine whose college and career-ready cuz Dad is a bin important part as well the numbers for our grad rate in our College and Career Readiness are the same number so when we decrease that grad right number by signing those students then we will also do priests at College and Career Readiness number in terms of College and Career Readiness is number one winning Wednesday's on Wednesdays all of our students first semester were working on one of the platforms that would allow them to work on when scores when preparation 9th and 10th graders use the Edgenuity platform and our eleventh and Twelfth graders logged into the wind portal for practice revision and preparation for the test are seniors retested we had seven students who earned the career Readiness distinction last year and by the time we finish we've been creased at now too I think Thirty of our 75 we have a few more that need to learn that credential in math for math is passing so they can earn the credential so we have some new things in place for second semester I'll tell you about those in just a second we have been working with Dr Murphy all dual enrollment coordinator to increase I dual enrollment for a c t e Learners it is our data shows us that not many of our students are going to actually attend college many of my students have already indicated they're going straight into the workforce so we're looking at those CTE courses that will prepare them for the workforce but will also give them that college readiness distinction for us here at the high school so I have some students who will be taking entrepreneurship and marketing and things in that an adult that nature through t c l which gives in the college readiness distinction but also prepares them to move right into the workforce we hold regular igp conferences with focus on career clusters we have scheduling meetings to address conflicts that limit access to Career pathway we are implementing again r a c t SAT prep courses this year so that we are making sure that I students are learning that college-ready distinction we have 55 students who will be enrolled in dual enrollment classes in the second semester which is an imp stop thinking about we have about 35 right now we're adding another 20 students in the fall in the spring we are also looking at implementing an applied Math course because many of our students are not passing the witness estimate in math which would give them the car is ready distinction because our kids have to be college or career ready we only get to count them once so we want to make sure that we impact one of the other so what we're doing is implementing that work based Work Ready Math course during the day so that when I students take that win assessment they are successful with that assessment we have a math interventionist position that we are looking to fill very quickly so that that person can work along with our English interventionist to help prepare our students we have implemented the high school Works advisor advisee model twice a month here in the building and that means that students return to their particular advisement teacher because every student is supposed to have an advocate for them and that those classes are about 20 students a piece for each teacher in the building and they meet twice a month during those sessions they talk about the transcript whether those students have earned their credential and College and Career Readiness what things they need to be prepared so that they earn that College and Career Readiness distinction weather be patient preparation for ACT SAT or they just need to practice for the ASVAB we have been listed are ROTC instructors and they provide focus training for students who want to take the ASVAB so that we see students who are getting at 31 or above if we increase decrease our number of graduates who are not in the building and increase our College and Career Readiness we will also see our grab rate go up and are College and Career Readiness rates go up Simon is also a big area for us that we are focusing on I was not pleased with the numbers were sitting at about half points earned from middle and high school so one of the things we've done this year is expand a student government representatives for both both the middle and high school normally that has been a high school thing but because we have the middle school year we now have Representatives on both from from all grade levels in the Middle School on the council as well to give us their input we have been implementing so our culture lyrics what events so that our students who are not Native Americans and that means we have some students from Jamaica and the building we have a few students from Portugal in the building we have a few students a large large population from the Spanish-speaking countries who won they feel included in what's going on here give opportunities for student input and feedback on relevant issues if they feel like they have a voice than their more inclined to find themselves involved in the activities here we have increased active celebrations and recognitions so that students are more likely to work towards those kinds of accolades we have activities that increase school spirit student involvement and connectedness among staff and students we focus on school safe a message to report issues we're going to implement a bullying link this year especially for a middle school students so that they have an anonymous way to report those issues one of the things we talked about this week with the state to the deputy superintendent was that schools will lose points in school climate based on bathroom cleanliness and where they're not they feel safe in the hallway so I know they were moving in the right direction again we have advisor advisor for high school students middle school students have a homeroom so they have an adult who can serve as their Advocate we are offering mentoring Mondays for middle school students where we are pulling in different people to come and talk with certain groups or whole grade levels and that's being sponsored by our career element I mean career specialist in the building we have increased access to information their website and social media platforms and we do weekly updates and information to parents via School messenger so that we can try to improve our school there are lots of ways that we are funding these activities we're using our Title 1 funds across the board for ELA math science and social studies were where we can we are using Edgenuity when using progress learn for monitoring of student performance we're using masteryconnect for daily Benchmark for weekly benchmarks and monthly benchmarks we are also implementing using the wind portal where we can tapping into those ACT SAT prep sin Edgenuity platform or progress learning as well and just making sure that we provide as much PD for our teachers as possible and we are excited that we are fully staffed almost completely full of Staff we have one or two vacancies esol in particular so that we can make things happened here at reason secondary Academy of Excellence I think I've stopped sharing so we should be back on the regular screen is Rena think you're talkin but you're on me thank you so much was very informative questions might so she's going to have to text me okay let me see any other questions no question I don't care but I do have some comments very good presentation very good and I do like the fact that you have this plot for mediation in the most time on your upper grades Middle High that's something that lacking an elementary level you do with it seems like it's a high to get to the less it is and then what you said a little while ago about the students having it and put on relevant issues get that and just keep that I think that wasn't that will help even an academic part of it because they have a voice and they being recognized at the stem scope we know that Hands-On and signs means a lot and that's been our weaknesses 34 years fact we do not have that Hands-On I'm inside so the fact that you have that I already caught I already typed program going on that should help and the after school I think it says for attendance growth of my tile angle attendance growth again involving out with my parents and students good history for summer isn't that has been a weakness for most students history even my children are in school history was their worst subject and so the fact that you are dressing that you recognized in addressing back that's great I mean implementing is super it really is and I do appreciate you thank you I appreciate that manchia I have one she said about the work. how is a s m per minute in this also because Susan has can get there on certificate and license and whatever do Ace in order to go right on to the work world have we implemented Ace in this at all students attend Ace and are CTE programs here we work very closely with dr. Vecchio at 8 to make sure that we don't have scheduling conflicts of that students are able to go over there and take those classes we are also looking at those students who don't want to necessarily go. Ace but how can we also give them College and Career Readiness through TCL really like we're right next to PCL and that's why we've kind of pull some of those courses in we do have quite a few students who are going into who are over there in barbering and cosmetology welding electricity culinary arts the firefighting peace and I can't think of what it's called over there but we have lots of students who attend uh yes ma'am we're looking to increase that number the biggest hurdle we have get over with our students who attend eighth or even our CTE programs is we don't get credit for them is College and Career Readiness in Cambria ready unless they pass an industry search so sometimes I students will actually compete complete all of the courses but they won't complete the industry certification so we are going back to those transcripts looking at students who have taken courses either and a sore here and making sure they sit for those exams so they are giving the distinction of college and career-ready but yes definitely a big part of what we do as well can I find out how many students we have at 8 from school this semester we had 25 at Ace the semester and those were a full day students and we're going to that number will change in January and I'm not sure exactly what that number will be right now because we're still working through schedule and those kids who may not have passed the course and rescheduling them but we had about 20 it went over this semester manager Madam China question I don't hear you met him through you're muted okay OK Google the question is are the kids actually passing your but attendance is a problem yes ma'am a lot of it is a tendon related we have a lot of students who are receiving a phase and that's failure for attendance and that's in the state regulations they are missing more than the allowed five unexcused absence and so what we are putting in place we're trying to encourage him to do content recovery before they get to that failure for attendance but there are little slow to do that but they are very much in aware of the attendance relations and we had a whole attendance meeting this morning with Juniors and seniors who are in danger of failing for attendance making sure they understand but yes ma'am they're passing their classes they're just not coming to school regularly and I really believe that's just a a carry over from do the waivers and relaxation they had of attendance lost during covid and then that came back into play full force last year and some of my students and some of them have not but they're getting it okay and then the other question was with the m l l student oh I think we lost her is too much vitamin A like I was saying was I understand that the MLL problem no problem I do not have an m l l teachers so how are those MLL students eyelash plans being monitored who's monitoring them who's updating them who's providing accommodations to the teachers or those and how were they actually being accommodated if there's no MLL teacher there is coming over a regular we need to talk about the eye laps and she's been working to get our students assessed and test it and putting those out have some place she's been providing providing my teachers my core content teachers with instructional methods that will help those those students and as I said in the presentation research shows that students who are immersed in the language and not pulled out fare better than when we pull them out for specialized instruction with an e s o l e sol teacher so what she's doing is supporting those teachers weekly and in providing it's with them on how to deliver that instruction when you software implementation like when they present in the classroom they have the option the ability to have their words translated on screen in Spanish to support those what those Learners we use the Buddy and when we do get out of the Sol teachers in place and we do have two recommendations out there and they're just going through the process we will be moving to a push in model instead of a pull-out model student someone will go into the classroom and support them right now mysterious helping us to support them through her siop training okay and then the final question was we're not headed towards college but what about the students who are going to enter into the college fee or we going to think about because I do know that you have some talented students on the high school and saw that the school is flourishing and it is weighted the same as AP courses we tend to move more towards dual enrollment because it covers it tackles two birds with one stone kills two birds with one stone so to speak students are able to earn that college credit immediately when they're successful is not depending upon them taking a test and earning that credit so our students are leaving here with associate degrees which makes them College ready and on the scale the weighted scale where we learn Point AP IB and dual enrollment awaited the same even for the report card okay but we're not supposed as a matter fact we sent a teacher last year to training for African American studies which we were going to implement this year however we didn't have as much interest in it so we're going to try to increase that interest because I think that's something they would enjoy and then we'll add some other courses as necessary but right now our kids are taking advantage of dual enrollment and it's the same as are AP courses Center give me the business tumor done I don't really have any question for you I just want to say for all three of the principles at just a tremendous amount of information I'm very impressed with all of the strategies that the implementing have been implemented will be implementing I know a lot of those are in the research and very very effective and I want to thank you as as the principles for leading that charge into your building the focus on the data and I need to thank all of your staff members for working so hard to get to the improvements that we've seen so just kudos to all of you and your staff and the the leadership what part of water shows the importance of having instructional support from a variety of experts in the field to help our teachers so they can Implement a good strategy so nice thanks everybody thank you any other comments for members is Riley Miss Mitchell it was a very good presentation as I said before let's just follow through with it but my question is that you talk about a math interventionist would be I know something like that are you working and that area right now because I know that's a very needed area yes ma'am I actually have a teacher on staff who is going to assume some of those roles while he still teaching for us next semester I've spoken to her she has a very strong background in math and also has a background with the dual enrollment program so we are looking at how we can use her this this coming semester and move into that position for next semester not necessarily her but feel that position on a full-time basis next school year it was not something that we did this school year because we were slowly feeling all about primary core content positions and that to me was power I need to make sure I had a teacher in front of the students every day and then now I can look for that other position and fill it thank you you're welcome thank you this is Gerald said the high school has you find any recollection funds to help them to provide that he support that they need outside of one very small account that is for both high school please thank her for the strategies that she has put together some older students forward. BP is a hard test so the biology Improvement is in his amazing I love the one on one assistant that is being provided to the student you'll see AP US History which is the end of course u.s. history is tremendous please thank her for using college coursework instead of relying on a CT etcetera or Ps 80 students leaving school with college credit is a powerful statement for school and District this is Gerald Gerald OMG I so miss ball in her hand out but I don't know if she wants something but I did have a question so but here I am okay I was just waiting for you to and what days I like to again thank God if you would go back over for me just the way you talked about the 185 students are enrolled at our potential to graduate that you're high the track and I was actually trying to get those numbers down so there's seventy-five currency news in the building 40 of them that have laugh the district we have not located yet of that 110 that are not in the building we have located was that 70 of them either if transferred in state transfer to school's out of state we have a few that have returned to their country I think one is in DJ Jay so we've been tracking those students we still have one group of 40 students that we are still trying to locate 4021 are Potter vet Hispanic population and so we are working with mystere in my parent liaison and Mr Bain's and his staff are going to help us see if we can locate them we don't know whether they're still in the area so that's been some of them haven't been in school since 2021 or 22 okay so those are some of the same students every year so my point is that these are we tracking them from 9th grade to 12th grade and we are noting that to the state department so that they will have a running record that we are aware that these are not our students basically they're just on a roll what are you doing right now to get my preliminary numbers is are active and inactive status once a student enrolled in a district they become at the high school level your students until they graduate unless you have documentation to move them off of your great file sometimes the state reconciles that file very nicely and that number will drop and I'm sure it will drop 185 I don't know what the final number will be because they don't give us that until April so what we're doing is working our entire 185 we can't take any chances so we're looking for everybody okay okay the document yes ma'am yes ma'am we have a potential file for all of the students who are sitting in high school so I have a great a ninth-grade file that includes everybody that's in the 9th grade this year I have a file for the 10th graders that included everybody was in 10th Grade and so those students who are no longer with us we're making sure we have documentation so that when they become seniors we're not tracking them we're getting that information right that's why the attendance measures are important cuz if a student is missing if we can't find them in those first 24 to 48 hours we're probably not going to find them a lot of them because they leave the area so when we have students who aren't coming who am I to just haven't seen them for two to three days they are immediately contacted parents if they're not getting anywhere they're contacting our attendance specialist and then we're putting in extra measures asking Mr Baines and his staff for home visit and we can't wait until they become senior so we're tracking those files for every grade level all year okay that's what I need thank you very much again great presentations okay let's ride do you have some questions I yes I'd like to say great presentation from all the principals but I do have a question cuz you mentioned something in the climbing area of about bathroom cleaning business and I just wondering why would all schools not be clean we have a contract with the maintenance maintenance contract then they should be maintaining outbuildings what I said is the research will show you the schools will lose lose points with bathrooms and how safe students feel in the building so we're making sure that our bathrooms are clean and that we're providing safe environment I didn't say I work I was work I said that's where they lose points on that climate survey that would share with in particular this past week okay thank you you're welcome Oscar you're working with the staff with the professional development and offering them all the tools that they need so that they can move their classroom you know accordingly we have high expectations for
