Summer Reading Camp starts because of Section 59-155-160 of Read to Succeed Act which states "… a student must be retained in the third grade if the student fails to demonstrate reading proficiency at the end of the third grade as indicated by scoring at the lowest achievement level on the state summative reading assessment which is SC READY. This score would equate to Not Met 1. One of the many components of Read to Succeed Act is third grade summer reading camp. Each district must identify third grade students who are not reading proficiently on grade level and provide them with the opportunity to attend a summer reading camp. During the summer reading camps students will be taught by highly qualified teachers who have experience in working with struggling readers. Students will have the opportunity to receive small group and individual instruction to work on their reading, writing, and listening skills. Students who successfully complete Summer Reading Camp and make progress towards reading with grade level proficiency can be promoted to the fourth grade. It is our district’s goal that every third grader becomes a proficient reader and advance on schedule to fourth grade.

hello my name is Sarah Lucas and I'm the Reading Coach at Richland Elementary School this year are we serving as in jcsd summary camp site coordinator are theme for summer reading camp this year is parents as partners it is my goal to partner with parents and teachers in order to help meet the needs of all third grade students in Jasper today I'm going to give you a brief overview of what to expect with the jcsd summer reading camp summer reading Camp starts because section 59-1 55-1 60 of read to succeed which state must be retained in the third grade at the student fails to text rate reading proficiency at the end of the third pray as indicated by scoring at the lowest achievement level on the state summative reading assessment which is SE reading the score would equate to a not met one one of the many components of the read 16 that is a third grade summer reading Camp each district must identify third grade students who are not reading proficiently on grade level and provide them with the opportunity to attend summer reading Camp during the summer reading Camp students will be taught by highly qualified who have experience working with struggling readers students will have the opportunity to receive small group and individual instruction to work on their Reading Writing and listening skills students to successfully complete summer reading camp and make Prague Westwood's reading with grade level for fish in sea can be promoted to 4th grade it's our district school that every 3rd grader become a proficient reader and move on as schedule to fourth grade summer reading Camp is for third grade student who perform low grade level expectation students must be invited to attend summer reading camp Camp will be held at Ridgeland Elementary for all jcsd third graders summer reading Camp will be held from June 6th through June 29th and will be held Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. transportation will be provided if needed for students summer reading Camp is designed to provide intensive intervention to support students in order for them to get a closer two grade level of proficiency students not demonstrating great level of proficiency during the school year are provided with intervention throughout the year as RC is an additional layer of support for the students once again is because our goal is to ensure all students are reading at grade level proficiency are many benefits for students who have the opportunity to attend summer reading camp and Thursday class sizes are much smaller than that of a normal school year will be a class that has no more than 15 students all students will be specifically working on goals set for them based off of pre-camp achievement data the summer reading Camp Creek elem has been designed with students goals in mine their curriculum will meet the students needs exactly where they are in order to help them grow progress towards goals will be monitored throughout camp and instruction will be adjusted to ensure students needs are constantly being met parents will be provided with weekly communication the progress of students and what they're working on with their gold and some additional strategies that can help support the students at home soon to attend as RC will also receive weekly books to take home that they can add to their at home live we can't wait to see your child at summer reading can we are committed to have parents as partners this summer we look forward to working with each of you and your students to meet our goal of ensuring all jcsd students are reading with grade level if you have any questions please contact your child's teacher we are here to support you in any way that we can thank you and have a great day
