dexterity good afternoon everyone we like to welcome everyone to our Jackson County Board of Education monthly school board meeting Monday August 8th 2022 the time is now 6:30 the media have been notified and we have established a quorum are there any order business coming out of the executive session to make a motion that we accept the person certified Personnel report new hires transfers retirements and resignations presented by mr. Terrell can I get a second bedroom chair Daisy Mitchell second we have a motion made by sail s by mrs. Mitchell to accept the certified Personnel report new hire transfer retirement resignation presented to us by mr. Leslie Sorel Director of Human Resources any questions all in favor with a roll call mrs. Frazier yes mrs. Raleigh yes Miss Mitchell yes mr. more white yes yes mrs. Gerald yes this is Riley yes I Priscilla green yes we're alone can I get a motion for us to go into General Session sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm trying to look we have the approval of the agenda can I get a motion for the approval of the agenda so Moon let him tear we have a motion by mrs. Frazier I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all have any public comments no madame share No public comment can I get a motion for the consent agenda timeshare let me prove the consent okay by Miss Mitchell to approve the consent agenda executive not sucking it so we have a most known the flow for the approval of the monthly meeting June 13th 2022 board meeting June 27th 22 in July 11th 2022 any questions yes ma'am Madam to you I have a question I guess for the June 27th minutes I guess one page to the first paragraph something please to it said that the cost of living increase is 3% to be received by all staff I was notified that all did not get that and I was just wondering I was too so I'm terrified that to me please it's all good. mrs. Carter in reference to that the cost of living actually is given to all classified staff certified staff members actually received the step increase as well as the $4,000 I was added to the certified salary scale so cost of living 3% was only given to classified staff and administration okay could you play outside. I guess step increase for the certified staff was at all certified staff from 0 to 0 years and I guess dance that's coming in so to find Santa's coming in the first time delete it all is really mad and Frazier actually depends on the certification level that is actually received as well as I can't believe the H as in the date on the certificate as to when the certification are the step increase can take place but for budgeting purposes I do budget the next year up of a step increase to ensure that we have a budget in place in case that someone Ashley has their step increase mid-year and I know the other budget questions and I'm sorry I missed song yes to be piggyback off of eyewitness Jennifer Carter said this step increases given to those who receive a year of experience on their certification and in order to receive the year of certification you have to work as a certified teacher for at least 152 days okay discussing the budget mrs. Mrs Frasier you had another question go ahead I just needed Clarity is because when someone comes to do and then I mean what was explained to us in the budget was not that we got the information from the budget meeting that every certified style all receive it it didn't give no stipulation as far as has them having to have so many hours how many days in or whether they were the first-year teachers and I mean if teachers or someone coming and access this question how are we supposed to answer that if I don't ask a question so that's why I just asked a question from the minutes I'm sure I would like to say something one of the things that would have helped us is if you see something in the minute that's not clear you will just as we pass before I give us a call because if someone is contacting you we only meet once a month but someone is contacting you and truly need an answer it would behoove us to have that answer to that employee and to you in a timely manner so that you can respond to your constituents so if you would moving forward if there is a question as you read the minutes or if there is someone contacting you in regards to a question please redirect them back to the appropriate ended Gilbert also contact me mrs. Frazier in any other board members so that we can certainly get the answers to you so that you can follow up with your constituents because again we only meet once a month with a question was asked prior to this then individual may be just waiting until this meeting and that to me is not reasonable so I would ask that we certainly share those in advance to us so that we can certainly help you and not the night of the meeting yes ma'am but yes ma'am it's just sad that I got the minutes on late on Friday and I work so and I didn't get to read it and told me that yesterday so and I just saw at the nest that question tonight thank you thank you motion on the floor all in favor roll call mrs. Mitchell yes this is Riley's Priscilla green yes so we have a yes and one I'm seven years in one day pay for the consent agenda moving right along we have reports and information superintendent update budget and budget Dr Rochelle Anderson thank you madam shall be there in 30 just want you to certainly give you an update in regard to we are answering after or I start week of school we are very pleased with our start of the year I'm glad we do have vacancies that we going over with you we are actively still recruiting for those vacancies we are very pleased is to announce that our transportation shining stars are definitely rolling rolling those buses throughout the community excetera we have eight regular drivers we also have three staff drivers giving us a total of 11 drivers that are actually driving and then we have four drivers that are in progress currently right now that we are actively recruiting we also want to commend mr. Terrell as well as Miss Fulton Miss Beaton and the team we do have a cert by staff trainer State trainer on site so now we don't have to wait for State individuals to train our bus driver is coming and we can expedite that process and we certainly want to welcome Miss Torino as she is supporting us to again move for with compliance as well as making sure that we are Expediting the process for those who are in queue waiting want to certainly give you any Roman update at this time as of today I'm for Richland Elementary School we have 794 scholars in person at Hardeeville Elementary preschool we have 609 scholars in person at Hardeeville Junior Senior High we have $546 in person and it Richland secondary Academy of Excellence we have 722 scholars in person giving us a total enrollment of 2671 again two 671 way2go jcsd and I would like to add at the close of last year we ended the year with with with c2600 41 students so I enrolled and is increasing we will be actively I'm continuously and this count that you have today the 2671 does include no-shows and any transfer we're out so this is our actual bodies in our schools at this time so I want to come in number one our administrators I'd like to come in our parents and our staff is well and our students for or support as we embrace the modify calendar you're in school and we are actively engaged with you and we certainly want to again thank you we will start home visit for those students if we need to for any a visual who is still number one either showing up periodically and or has not shown up and we know that they are certainly in the district and we have not received any correspondence from another school for their record again thank you so much again for your support and we look forward to moving forward as we enter our third week of school any questions team from Anderson I do I just have one question. Anderson do you have the grade-level enrollment numbers like 9th 10th 11th and 12th grade for each campus I can get that I don't break it down way to deliver to the board but I can certainly send that to you miss you and will be happy to send that spreadsheet out to you and so we'll have that to you by the end of tonight okay thank you and you're quite welcome well I have to a job well done to the team Kudos especially child transportation department Human Resource. Anderson it's nice to see the buses rolling through the neighborhoods I didn't even realize I still had that many children on my South African school but I'm seeing the bus and I'm passing them coming and going their role in and I want to say hats off we see we got a bunch of several new bus drivers we like to welcome them and thank them for coming to our the district to serve as our students we appreciate everyone's hard work and dedication is I know it's not easy but you're continuing to push through we appreciate each and everyone of you and his bride definitely singing. I work in action as far as Staffing we would like to be one hundred percent Stafford with the shortage of nationally we said hats off to you job well done that until yes listen to a question cuz you didn't mention it in there I know we came back early and we have to do this this going to ace how will be accommodating those a students at this moment because of where he's not being open right they are still at their swear respective schools and they're receiving enter in any type of I should stay extension assignments for remediation and or acceleration during this time that would be like the same program we have them doing when Beaufort County is out and we're in absolutely and any other questions team play Movin right along we will have budget and budget transfers information is it all packet mrs. Jennifer Carter do we have any questions for her and breakfast in a budget and budget transfer everyone has a chance to review that no questions thank you you have your board member monthly attendance also included in your package we don't have any additional action items do you have any future agenda items if we can discuss a few board meetings in person versus virtual for the next agenda item would you like to review policy mrs. toomer yes because I thought with the last or if it wasn't the last meeting it was a couple of meetings probably like around you I'm thinking where we voted on meeting in person and so I know that the covid numbers have increased however you know our our staff all of us are still going to work and so just wanted to get that on the agenda for impersonating okay we will review those minutes Mrs tumor and will get back to you I do recall us having a discussion about it and I remember them saying the next meeting after that discussion that we had I don't recall us bring it to him but I will pull we could pull a minute and make sure but we have to make sure our policy and I think we decided not to do anything with the policy in reference to that so I'll meetings but we will pull it and hopefully the next meeting I'm alone without board chair when she said it up we will send her this request and it can be in person Madam chair we have a schedule that was given to us about the meetings in the location and this one tonight was supposed to have been also in person and I had several constituents and community members asking me when our next meeting wasn't telling them because I had that schedule that the meeting was tonight and in person at the government building and then lo and behold and we got our package and everything it was telling us all the invite for the birds with me so we do have a schedule where they're showing that all the meetings starting tonight was in person okay I didn't I wasn't in on the planning of this meeting but the next minute bring your concerns to mrs. bold and unfortunately she is unable to be here with us tonight so I'm feeling in a comment please cuz I was apart of the the the planet or the meeting and if our policy indicates for board meetings in his freezer is correct there is a schedule that is out at the board approved for location I'm going to be reminded that the County Council had a call meeting tonight at Workshop as well as they called me they're using their own chamber so that was not an available location the other meetings have been approved but I am aware that Miss Bolden did address any board member that had a question in regards to the virtual meeting and a policy indicate if we do change the location we are to make that public within 24 to 48 hours and we did do that so that change was noted the proper way per policy but I'm certain that Miss green you will certainly share as well as I that the comment in regards to the meeting with the four share I'm going to be honest with you guys that I cannot meet in that district office after my last episode of covid and I'm always coughing and y'all always eating though in that District so I would have to be virtual with any meeting that's in the schedule in the district office but I will attend go ahead and speak with Microsoft so you know I Miss Betty we've we've begun a new school year and I guess it again it was a little hectic but to our staff I would like to just give Clues kudos to them and because I know it wasn't easy for them starting so early and then with some of the problems that we had so to our staff I just hope that in some way as a board as a district that we can continue to show them that we really support them and that we're here for them because it is not easy Journey as any educated knows begin this year is not an easy Journey but I think they've handled it with dignity and their fortitude and I thank them for that and I hope that we can continue to let them know how much we appreciate them and all that they do definitely mrs. Mitchell definitely kudos to the team and its entirety with great greatly greatly appreciate all that every what is going to make this Ship Sails ask Ali there is no perfect there's no perfect system and as we can see in the news they're surrounding districts County States that's having the same issues at Jackson County is having so we're just where we appreciate everyone and we will continue you know doing what we were elected to do and we will continue to move forward it will contain moving right along on the agenda we have one through touching the items from mrs. toomer do we have any other future agenda items okay you have the announcements line. the musical Courtney do we have a need to go back into executive session Madam chair I see that we are having to let's get educated the penny sales text Session 1 and 2 I feel that we really want to get this pass will you need to have a session in the morning I understand that business people who will be talkin to do business from 9 to 5 and that's good for us to communicate in one session but I think we need to ask these people to come out to a evening session to so that we can sell this if we have both of them doing baby going to lose a lot of parents and we going to lose a lot of all the constituents who maybe might be inclined to vote for this referendum so I'm just thinking that maybe we need to have one a.m. and 1 p.m. is my suggestion thank you mister Malloy your suggestion is well noted any other comments I just wanted to say how proud I am of a stem lab and I'll Stand bus and I'll new football stadium I just want to let everyone know that so I'm waiting for the first home game I don't remember the schedule but if somebody have the first schedule game please let me know it's a scrimmage line on right now Miserables. this meeting and there is a game Friday Friday Friday Friday I'm a  chair if I may make one comment before we dismiss our general I'm to Mis Amores point these are Saturday sessions so that's why these sessions were in the morning the full schedule was presented and there are evening sessions for those sessions so that there are multiple sessions leading up to the penny you're welcome can we get a motion to adjourn a second recommended Medicare we have a second from his invention with him Collins any questions all in favor by Tay and I I miss razor Miss Riley I has habit everyone be thank you all for joining us y'all have a good evening
