Greetings Jasper County School District Family and Stakeholders! On the behalf of our superintendent, Dr. Rechel M. Anderson, and our administration, we sincerely hope that you have had and are having a joyful and restful Spring Break. Since the arrival of our administration in July 2018, we have continued to work very diligently to improve Teaching & Learning in Jasper County School District. We also have worked to hire the best educators to teach our scholars. As we continue to remain Student-Centered...Future-Focused, we are appreciative of the professional educators who embrace our proven researched-based instructional framework. Our framework provides a consistent road map that teachers and students can depend on to provide consistently rigorous learning environments across content areas and grade levels. To this end, we are excited to share this video example of Ridgeland Elementary School 2nd grade teachers working to instill the love of reading in our young scholars. Keep soaring Jasper County School District and let's remain focused on our students, improving teaching and learning, and telling our own story! green Jasper County School District family faculty and staff and students as well as stakeholders I am dr. Rachelle Anderson superintendent of Jasper County School District Welcome to Jasper crown we are telling our own story in our very own way we are so elated that Jasper County school district has both of its elementary schools recognized as Points of Light by the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence we are on the move and we are so excited to be a part of moving forward and of excellence in our elementary schools I am joining you to share about how we're working to improve reading comprehension and RJ Co moment you will see a video showing our teachers at Richmond Elementary School using a small group reading Improvement strategy called guided reading or reading rotation teachers are using this strategy to improve reading comprehension in our classrooms the data shows major improvements and we are so elated to be able to share a quick glimpse into our second grade class at Richland Elementary School I know you will enjoy what you are about to see so we can working on consonant clusters write hello I am in jury box it and I am a second grade teacher here at Ridgeland Elementary School what can you do I've been doing this guided reading with my students from day one this very first day of school I take my sister location even if it's just browsing books to the library to get them excited about before I leave begin talking about the term got it independent reading we don't learn to love book we going to learn to love rain and so I start day 1 coming to my back table it's not structure it's just like this one come sit with me now let's talk about the reason I feel like I bring my personal books this is a teacher's reading life this is what I do so they don't understand this is it starts now but as it's goes into your chest as well part of the process for small group instruction is transition is huge. My students and a smooth transition so we use a lot of music to move so I should hear music and not voices so well show me hear particular phone the transition to the front of the class alethia where do are you doing then we proceed to go through our they were actively what will they be involved in when they do go to small group normally I would say Route 1 where you going I might call them and they're going to explain who he is and I'll go through each group like that don't worry about so apart of it and making sure they understand when I get to this particular small this is what I'm supposed to be doing so I can go into the details of the physical sensors that yourself today you saw group with sight words because that's what their need those are my children I'm working with the mpsf process so that's the intervention for them so I met with that group yesterday so it's a carryover so yesterday we me flashcards with words that they know then you saw a group of children just doing independent reading I teach them reading for pleasure cuz that's what we do as adults that's what that's a lifelong still right. Try not to have met rule when it come to the independent reading cuz I want to do he just what it is for pleasure and then we have a group that's on the computer I want to push that already if it's not intervention group or group that needs extra practice then I go in and I'll sign you know the individual assignment the other group was what grab-and-go and my grandpa go is a spiral Center so if we did portrait last week you might be doing portrait this week because we've been doing this is a nonfiction unit for the we've been working on these animals but wow but the children thoroughly enjoyed the research so they get the research on the computer and Epic book when I went to the library the other day they had the opportunity to check out a book on a particular animals normally have a Writing Center but you didn't see the Writing Center because it sooner I can handle that independent writing so I would have to stay in your soul I have to be no big deal conscious decision do I send somebody there so everybody don't get to go there every day but they do get the right in some form for small group again the first thing it was me working with a electric changes every day you are some teachers may do a rotation I don't cuz I believe quality over quantity so I want to make sure I have good quality timer for 30 minutes I set my phone everyday for 30 days and I make sure I do that group for 30 minutes but when you have them at that back people this is my time to really get into their heads get into their stinking see what they're to decide if they are thinking while they are is the reading making sense you know what is it that I have to do as a teacher to get you to the next level to succeed as a lifelong or no meat or not just a second but I don't know if is a parrot with Waze what we read page for then I'll let you practice it this is important because these kids are and haven't had that. Ference so away for us The Tackle this is who I smoke because one size does not fit all are at the beginning of the lesson we did constant parents don't understand that as the teacher I'm eating your child if you saw I had a student who we were thrilling ABC that's where your student that's where your child was at right now so as a teacher I have to meet them where they're at I have to understand this part is important right now I'm going to take you where you at and we want to go I would like for my students to take away from this experience that they will be lifelong Learners of reading and that my teacher and secondary has really made sure that she spent the time the quality time of giving me those things that's going to make me a better reader even you are ready at grade level reading there is something I can give you a tickle that makes you the better our Scholars are fully engage in these reading exercises and making great progress in making a ground lost during the pandemic special thanks to our teachers at Richmond Elementary School mrs.
