Jasper County School District we are very appreciative of our Volunteers in our district we think of the work that is ahead of us we realize that we not do this work alone so we need individuals who are committed we need individuals who wake up everyday who can decide to do whatever they want to but they decide to be a part of us and that a very excited about we have individuals who are fully committed who come one day a week they are volunteers that come multiple days during the week and we even have volunteers who have been with us for 10 or more we even have volunteers who just committed themselves and him been here a month but they're very excited about the work ahead and we are very excited to have them at the part of us 11 years ago a friend of mine and said could you use some help and she said I would love it and I said here I come 11 years later I'm still here I'm in a I'm a classroom aide in a first grade classroom I've been with same teacher for 10 years I might do everything from grading papers to helping students with their math individually with their reading taking them to connect basically taking care of the classroom when the teacher has to step out. They wanted me to help necessities and her seventh grade English class so I've been helping her there for about three weeks and mostly what I do is help the kids with their essays help them with spelling and grammar and I even talked to them a little bit about the since we read the book The Outsider which is about the sixties and so I told him what it was really like to live in the sixties and that's about what I've done so far I haven't been there very long so I'm still getting a feel for what I need I've enjoyed it so far I was retiring and moving into the area being a volunteer one of the local schools was definitely not on my game plan but once I became interested in starting getting exposed to what was going on School District I decided are the Bluetooth just volunteer in a math program because I have a math background and so I did at the high school and it was one of the most learning experiences I've ever had I have had some of the most heartwarming and uplifting experiences working with the children here in the high school and the middle school over the past few years what I do is as I assistant teacher I'm in the classroom while that the lessons are being taught I've refresh my memory on subjects that I haven't talked about in years and work one-on-one and in small groups with the children ironing out in Flushing out all the details of what they were learning in the in the class that day at first especially high school students and middle school students they were a little bit hesitant to approach a new But as time goes on over the next few weeks or two months all of a sudden is Mister car, and I'll tell you it's been great it's has been one of its it's a very fulfilling Mission and the children are industrial spaces in and then being lifted up is just worth the whole everything you're going through I was told by Jessica Russell that since I've started helping these boys so since the beginning of school year all of them have increased their their scores their Scholastic scores and I find that rewarding that I receive from the student a lot of that I get back to them and as far as I'm concerned it's all about forming relationships with these children earning their respect earning their trust no one that they can count on me and then I'll be there for them I want them all to succeed I want them all to get the best out of the education that they possibly can it fills my heart working with the the first graders is extremely rare morning I enjoyed teaching my two sons how to read when they were very young and volunteering with the first graders gives me the opportunity to experience that enjoyment again the kids are polite reckful and eager to learn it's been many years since I've worked with young kids and I forgotten just how much fun it is and I really enjoy it out to you you can go to the Jasper County website Jason D. Net top right corner there's a button to click on for volunteers and it walks you through the process I think for any age child extra tension is always a good thing whether it's helping them the master skill whether it's helping them stay on top keeping them motivated giving APUSH when they need it just have another personal connection in anybody's life is a great thing we care about you we appreciate you and we think you for your service and your commitment to our student here in Jasper County and we look forward to continuing to work with you
