Student Spotlight: Meet Denardo Henry

This week's Dual Enrollment spotlight is Denardo Henry. He attends Ridgeland Secondary Academy of Excellence and is a senior. Denardo is an active participant on RSAE's Football team, Student Athlete Scholars, National Honor Society, and Track/Field squad. Denardo is committed to his education and will be receiving a University Transfer certificate, Liberal Arts certificate, an Associates in Art and an Associates of Science in May 2025 from TCL.

Denardo Henry has received the following scholarships: Founders Scholarship (30k), Jairy C Hunter (17k), Presidential Scholarship (17k), CofC merit (20k). He has also received college acceptance letters from Newberry, Charleston Southern, Benedict College, Presbyterian, USC Aiken, Mercer University, Coastal Carolina, University of South Carolina, North Carolina Central, College of Charleston, and Erskine College.

Denardo explains that Dual Enrollment gave him a semi-realistic look at what college life and courses are going to look like. He said the courses were rigorous and occupied most of his time, forcing him to schedule each day and what assignment he was going to tackle that day. Denardo advises future dual enrollment students "to be diligent and don’t get sloppy taking dual enrollment courses." He goes on to say, “It sounds hard and will feel horrible, but it will be worth it.” Denardo plans to attend college to study sports medicine and mass communication. Additionally, he aims to play professional or semiprofessional sports.

Denardo also maintains a job and participate in community service while being a full-time college student and athlete. His community service hours include participating in the Ridgeland Fall Festival (2024), volunteering at Piggly Wiggly (2025), Church Sermon (2025), JCSD Fall Festival (2025), Ridgeland Halloween Festival (2025), trash clean up around RSAE (2024). JCSD is so proud of Denardo and all of his accomplishments. We wish you continued success in your pursuit of higher education and future endeavors.

JCSD Students Attend USC Womens Basketball Game

Jasper County Students recently had the opportunity to attend a University of South Carolina women’s basketball game in Columbia. The experience exposed students to a collegiate environment while highlighting the importance of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance both on and off the court.
Students were able to witness firsthand the dedication and skill of the USC women’s basketball team, gaining inspiration from athletes who model leadership, hard work, and academic excellence. The trip also served as a motivational experience, encouraging students to envision future goals and explore postsecondary opportunities.
Jasper County Schools continues to provide meaningful experiences that connect learning beyond the classroom and promote positive engagement for students.
