The Opportunity Project of South Carolina was formed because there is a clear need to build capacity in communities throughout South Carolina. This project addressed the long-standing gaps across three quality-of-life areas: healthcare, education, and technology. The Opportunity Project seeks to close those gaps through its programming and capacity-building grants to organizations in South Carolina. The project creates opportunities to close these gaps between South Carolinians and the rest of the world.
Jasper County School District was one of the school districts to receive support from The Opportunity Project this year. The Board of Education, Administration, staff, and students of the Jasper County School District are very appreciative to Representative Bakari Sellers and Opportunity Project. Representative Sellers and the Opportunity Grant supported both Hardeeville Elementary and Ridgeland Elementary Schools by awarding 50 new student desks each; a total of 100 student desks district-wide. Dr. Marlyn Westbrook, Principal at Hardeeville Elementary and Ms. Renata Green, Principal at Ridgeland Elementary, attended the press conference in Columbia, S.C. on behalf of Jasper County School District. Mr. Curtis Belgrave, Executive Director of Operations, ensured that all logistics were finalized for the desks to be delivered and placed in our elementary schools.
