assessment and I didn't end of the presentation tonight I will share with you why is that is relevant and why it's important forward many of these assessments require students to complete onside station dettlaff some flexibility actually it has to go through these assessments I will share that with you the first one that we're going to look at our map growth assessment that was given during the window of August 10th through September 4th and Matt stands for there's an academic progress her at 1:42 we had to administer a pre-assessment to all students kindergarten through 9th grade after we found out we had to Fernandez the staff that we did the state did allow some flexibility for soon as you complete this assessment Berkeley if needed I'm so we were supposed to eat, and then if we had parents that felt more comfortable having her students take it at home they could do that virtually however they choose those courts had to be flagging social score when students complete at the assessment what's the minute to the South Carolina Department of Education and also to the EEOC if you want here we've got us can't take math and they will also take a reading assessment and so at except that we had in grades kindergarten through 9th grade we had about 2110 students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 9th grade you can see we had about 1,000 516 students complete the reading assessment and roughly 1474 students complete the math assessment and so when we look at that percentage-wise about 72% of our students completed a reading of about 70% of our students completed the math assessment and since they have to have reading and math it's it is set up as two separate assessment get the next assessment that we're going to look at is Matt reading fluency and it's actually made by the same company and and Matt stands for measures of academic progress math fluency is a universal screener and a progress monitoring assessment referral Bow Wow we are required to get an MTS s trainer in MTS s stands for multi-tiered systems of support and so our window for the assessment was 45 days of school now the state requires us to assess all kindergarten and first grade student three times a year in the beginning of the school year in the middle and then again at the end Jasper County School District has made the choice to also assess for 2nd graders at the progress monitoring tool it's a very good assessment and we we get some very valuable data from it so I'm second grade is optional but an option that that we have chose to implement we have to choose our mtss printer from an approved list of strainers and map reading fluency was the screener that was chosen for the school year office and flexibility given within this assessment that it could be given own site or and so some of our students and some could take it at home you can see here or percentage of are raw data is there on the left breckindale by school and level or 10% of their students completed the assessment 81% and second grade 69% for Ridgeland Elementary kindergarten 39% first grade 52% and second grade 42% espouse how to get into a 4K student only in pass stands for phonological awareness literacy screening and it's a formative assessment that is given individually teacher and it measures preschoolers developing knowledge of the important fundamentals of literacy skills is also has to be administered within the first 45 days of school the state requires us to get it twice a year one beginning of the school year and again at the end of school district in the middle of the year as well as a checkpoint we were not given any flexibility for piles so students had come outside and I had to be administered by the classroom teacher we had 128 students complete this assessment and 15 students did not complete the assessment and we look at that percentage-wise 90% of our students in 4k just complete the assessment and 10% did not kindergarten Readiness assessment is only given to kindergarten students the first 45 days of school is it's a one-time assessment that determines us students Readiness for school we did have some flexibility here it was required to be on site and in person however we did not catch the minister all sections of this assessment so we only had him insured illiteracy and the math portions of the KRA we owe her a hundred and sixty-four students complete this assess which was about 74% and 58 students that did not complete this assessment which was about 26% of student turn Nest assessment. how to look at for second grade students only and it's actually used to place students into the gifted and talented program and they can take the cognitive abilities test cogat and it also take I take two assessments to identify them for gifted and talented we were not given any flexibility on this assessment and had to be given on site and in-person you can see the testing window there at the bottom with his the 19th through November 13th at the raw data is there on the left and the completion data are percent data is on the right we will have makeup testing January 19th through the students that were not able to come and complete the assessment during the October 19th through November 13th testing window will be able to make that assessment off in January if they choose Nexus asset we have here is our ready to work assessment this is for our high school student state law requires that students in their career Readiness assessment this is normally given in the spring and last school year or 11 question is did not have the opportunity to complete already ready to work assessment 12th grade students all were assessed for the ready to work and you can see the testing window there October 26th through November 13th we had a great turnout for this assessment for high school students are 12th graders 117 students at complete the assessment and 11 that did not complete the assessment so 91% of our students to complete the assessment at 9 did not we do have makeup scheduled for March in Sault Ste it'll be able to that did not have a chance to take the assessment will have an opportunity to complete that in March and again we did not have any flexibility with this assessment students are required to come on campus and Carson is that way this to our next point which is our level of importance and so why talking about completion data and what does that have to do with are school district and sent her a provide a few artifacts they are for you two to read but the first thing that I want to share is the link to the South Carolina General Assembly Bill 52 and details regarding 142 and that deal you'll see where we were mandated to give a pre-assessment requirement and a person highlights here for you however it is now or expectations that states will in the interest of students a minister summative assessment during the 2020-21 2021 school year extension with requirement of the law and following guidance of local Health officials as a result you should did not anticipate such waivers being granted again and this is in reference to the waiver that the South Carolina Department of Education requested regarding I'm summative assessments and cigarettes assessments and this was her response to our state saying that we should not anticipate a waiver from State Testing is so with that letter what does that mean going forward when we look at our school report cards and away that that is calculated one of the things that we can't use the accountability manual from LA sure because that accountability manual has the waivers in it and so we didn't take any cigarettes test last year so they can ability manual really would not apply for this year is not set to come out until March 5th 2021 the only thing that we can go on is historical data from our accountability and manuals and so if we pulled that would be our 2018-2019 accountability manual and I want to share with you a note in there if a school test less than 95% of eligible students in the schools rating in academic achievement will be reduced by one writing level it's a school it's not eligible for the hot the school is also not eligible for the highest overall rank rating level and so we don't know if that's going to be in our 2021 accountability however we can look at some historical data and content of project that that might be a possibility if we have to administer those assessments the last part that I wanted to share with you is in reference to the third grade reading and so we received a letter from the State Department of Education from David Mathis who is our Deputy superintendent for the state Outlander he's just a small blurb to you for 20/20 21 school year at 1:40 to direct the South Carolina Department of Education to seek a waiver from the federal accountability relating testing requirement the waiver request has been submitted and the South Carolina Department of Education will communicate to District the decision of the US Department of Education was received if a waiver from the kind of testing is not Granite St ready will be administered and spring 2021 and mandatory retention at third grade pass acquired by 84 will be in effect in the letter goes on to explain that we have to begin to start planning for what that's going to look like in so I Cheryl to delete into what winter and spring assessments we have coming up and some assessments we may receive some flexibility on and some assessments we may not for our kindergarten first and second grade students map reading fluency for that made your point is coming up we'll have to make up assessments for second grade students coming up for gifted and talented I will also look at a we're right in the middle of for are on high school students and that will occur again in the spring or 11th grade stop will be taking the win or ready to work assessment we also have are macros which is happening Nylon platform however the district's that did Paladar Airline platform are still required to take or complete that assessment on the site so even though it was an assessment that was given online they were still required to come unto camp wait so the flexibility as far as how the assessment was administered there wasn't any there following up if you don't mind so were they concerned about the Little T and reliability of the virtual assessment well I wasn't for sure it wasn't purple it's just an online version of the assessment and it was given it was given on campus okay expect about him thank you so much.
