Why a Credential?
  • Provides students with disabilities an alternative option to demonstrate their ability to transition into the work community
  • Uniform, state-recognized South Carolina High School Credential aligned to a newly created course of study
  • Section 59-39-100 added employability credential to diploma pathways in South Carolina

  • NOT a SC High School Diploma
  • Not for all students with disabilities

  • Started with freshman class of 2018 with an expected completion date of 2022
  • Aligned with the Profile of the SC Graduate
 

Coursework and Required Assessments

The course of study that leads to the South Carolina High School Credential includes:

  • 4 English -- Essentials of English 1, 2, 3 4
  • 4 Math -- Essentials of Math 1, 2, 3, 4
  • 2 Science -- Essentials of Science 1, 2
  • 2 Social Sciences -- Essentials of Government, Essentials of US History
  • 4 Employability Education -- Employability Education 1, 2, 3, 4
  • 1 PE / Health (or equivalent)
  • 1 Technology -- Essentials of Technology or General Education Equivalent
  • 6 Electives
 
 

The Student Career Portfolio is designed to be an on-going assessment of the student’s progress through the South Carolina Credential.

 

The SKEMA-SC is an assessment that will demonstrate the student’s acquisition of general employability skills necessary for competitive employment.
