Grade Information
Kindergarten through Second Grade
Learning in young children is the result of interaction between the child’s thoughts and experiences with materials, ideas, and people. Teachers plan experiences designed to match the child’s interests and understanding.
Kindergarten children involved in specially designed activities to address skills and concepts from the State Standards and High/Scope Key Experiences. Anecdotal records, checklists, and portfolios are kept on each student to monitor progress and specific development needs. These documents are used to report to parents if specific skills are mastered or not yet mastered.
Students enrolled in grades one and two are involved in learning experiences that are age appropriate and individually appropriate. Teachers interact with students using questioning techniques to assess their growing knowledge. Students demonstrate their understanding of skills through real classroom activities and portfolios, which include collections of, work samples as documentation. Anecdotal records are used to summarize each child’s overall strengths and progress, which results in needed adjustments to the curriculum to benefit that child.
