The music academy is open to rising 6th to 12th grade students and the visual arts academy is open to 7th to 12th grade students.
Ms. Edna Grace, band director in Berkeley County, was the director of the band camp while Dr. Patti Edwards, a professor at the university, directed the vocal students.

Art, visual and musical, displayed by Talented Artist Program
There is art that you can see and there is art that you can
hear. Both of those art forms were showcased at Sgt. Jasper Park during
the summer.
During the last school year, students at both Ridgeland and Hardeeville Elementary Schools were given the opportunity to try out for a new program being offered in the local schools. They had to draw, they had to paint, they had to play an instrument, they had to imagine, they had to create.
Those who were chosen for their accomplishments by a panel of judges were enrolled in the initial Gifted and Talented Artists Program that was conducted at both of the district's elementary schools.
Their work was proudly displayed at the Gifted and Talented Arts Showcase when the works of both schools will be on display. The artists were present to welcome the community and discuss their work.
The artists have been taught by Holly Zusack and Kevin Wilson while the musicians are the students of Cristina Walker.
