Jasper County School District Superintendent
Larry B. Heath, Acting Superintendent

Larry B. Heath has been named to succeed John S. Taylor as the Interim Superintendent for the Jasper County School District by the School Board. The appointment was effective on Wednesday, January 20.

Michael Hubbard, Board Chair, expressed the board’s appreciation for Taylor’s service to the community and regrets that family health issues had made the extension of his agreed upon term of six months impossible. Taylor will be available for a transitional period.

Heath brings 38 years of service in education, all of it served in the Chester County School District in South Carolina. He recently retired from the Chester County School District that serves 6,000 students in 12 schools.

The Johnson C. Smith University graduate holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Winthrop University and Educational Specialist certification from the University of South Carolina.

Heath began his career as an elementary school teacher, moved on to teach math in the high school, and became assistant principal of that high school before moving on to district supervisory positions. After serving five years as an elementary principal, he again moved to the district level as a director of secondary education, advancing to director and later Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for eight years.

Since 2000, Heath served a year as an interim, then five years as an Associate Superintendent, and completed three years as Chester County Superintendent before taking retirement in July.

His strong background in curriculum and assessment should prove of value to the district.
