Jasper County is located in the southwestern
corner of South Carolina, near the historic cities of
Beaufort, SC, and Savannah, GA, and near the
beaches of Hilton Head Island. Jasper County has
two incorporated towns: Hardeeville and
Ridgeland. The county covers 662 square miles
and has an approximate population of 21,193.
Jasper County is poised for growth, fueled by a
new power plant, new water treatment plant, new
hospital, new schools and colleges, major new
residential developments, and a new port
authority.
Business and commerce are balanced with an
appreciation of history and culture. Major
industries include building material fabrication,
food processing, bulk export and import and
manufacturing. The county's heritage, which dates
back to native American Indians, helps draw
thousands of tourists, many of whom choose to
relocate to enjoy the mild climate year-round.
In addition to the public schools, educational
opportunities include a four-year satellite campus
of the University of South Carolina, located near the
county line. The area's proximity to the Intercoastal
Waterway and several rivers offers much for the
sportsman and outdoor
enthusiastic, including saltwater and freshwater
fishing, kayaking and hunting. Sergeant Jasper Park
offers 132 acres of trails, picnic areas and lakes for
camping and hiking. Nearby Hilton Head Island
offers world-class golf and tennis.
