Board Honors Sister Mary
The Jasper County School District Board honored one of its own Monday night when it proclaimed October 9th to be Sister Mary Gallagher Day. The Proclamation was read by Board Chair Kathleen Snooks and was followed by a standing ovation by fellow members and staff and visitors who were present for the regularly scheduled meeting.
The Proclamation, signed by Dr. William Singleton Jr. and Ms. Snooks, reviewed Sister Mary’s service to her church, to her community, to the school system and to the children of Jasper County. A Sister of Mercy, Gallagher has been the administrator of St. Anthony Mission in Hardeeville and one of the founders of the Hardeeville Thrift Store, Jasper County Neighbors United and the proposed Two Sisters affordable housing development.
Sister Mary has been an advocate for the growing Hispanic population within the county.
