greetings Jasper County family where we are student-centered and future Focus I am here today to tell you about a wonderful superhero our Jasper County School District summer reading Camp my name is Miss Shirley hadn't I am the literacy coach at Hardeeville Elementary School AR theme for our summer camp is Jasper Super Heroes read the read to succeed act legislation from South Carolina was put into place and it states that a stye must be retained in third grade if that student fails to demonstrate reading proficiency at the end of third grade as indicated by scoring at the lowest achievement level on the state summative reading essentially this legislation means that students who are not reading on grade level by the end of third grade will not be promoted to the 4th grade however students have opportunity to extend summer reading Camp to work on those deficient areas as well as take the i-Ready assessment the gold is the student to read on grade level at the completion of summer reading Camp attend summer reading camp summer reading Camp is for third grade students who are performing below level expectations where will we have our summer reading camp summer reading Camp will be held on both campuses Hardeeville Elementary and Ridgeland mystery for identified third grade students Based on data that data includes the i-Ready data for the beginning of the year the middle of the year and the end the year other data that will be included will be the already assessment that the students will take during the summer reading camp second grade students also invited to the summer reading camp where we will work with the second grade students on their reading skills will be notified registration forms will be sent home with the students please complete those forms and return them to your child's School more information will be provided when is summer reading camp summer reading Camp will be held from June 3rd through June 27th it will be held Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. transportation will be provided if needed what's the purpose of summer reading camp summer reading Camp is designed to provide intensive prevention to support students for them to progress on grade level or closer to grade level proficiency our teachers are dedicated and we'll work with each child to work on their reading skills students not demonstrating grade level reading for efficiency during the school year are provided with intervention support throughout the school year FRC is an additional layer of reading support for our students what are the benefits of summer reading camp summer reading Camp has smaller class sizes than the normal school year students will be working on goals that are specific to them that will be a specific curriculum aligned to student goals parents will be provided with weekly communication as strategies to further support students at home we are looking forward to seeing your child as summer reading camp we are committed to having parents as partners where Jasper superheroes read if there any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's School superhero camp
