Volunteer Programs

Daytime Volunteers - There are many activities that take place during the school day where volunteer help is needed, including book fairs,*day field trips, field days, fundraisers, homeroom parties, media center cataloguing, photo days, etc. All volunteers must check in at the front desk at the assigned school and wear the issued volunteer sticker.  

 Mentors - A mentor is a caring adult who is willing to be a good listener and non-judgmental friend to a student who can benefit from guidance and individual attention. Mentors help students broaden their vision of opportunities, understand the value of education and accomplish academic and personal goals. Mentors have assigned students and meeting times, so they must able to commit long-term and be dependable. Mentors must fill out the district volunteer application before they can be approved to mentor.

 Overnight Chaperones - Students participate in a number of athletic, artistic and educational activities that require overnight travel. Volunteers are needed to help chaperone these overnight trips. Potential chaperones should familiarize themselves with the purpose of the field study before agreeing to go. Many field studies require chaperones to help with student activities, which may require a fair amount of physical stamina. These volunteers aid the teachers by directing their assigned group of students to designated areas and are responsible for the safety of these students for the duration of the trip. Chaperones should be patient and helpful but firm, with the understanding that the rules apply to all students. Overnight chaperones must fill out the district volunteer application before they can be approved for these trips.

Tutors - Tutors can provide students with one-on-one help they might not receive in the classroom. Tutoring can help a student master concepts and subjects by presenting material in a different way. Tutors are needed during and after school hours. Tutors must fill out the district volunteer application before they can be approved to tutor.

 ALL chaperones must fill out the district volunteer application before they can be approved for field trips.
